BombarralA small village south of Óbidos, Bombarral lies in the heart of a fertile wine-producing region, known as the Rota do Vinho Oeste (Portugal’s Western Wine Route). Encompassing the districts of Óbidos, Caldas da Rainha, Bombarral and Cadaval, the area is known for its local wineries, including Quinta do Sanguinhal and Quinta dos Loridos, both of which are open for tastings and tours.

[tabs] [tab title=”Culture and History” icon=”icon-key”]The Pereira de Fonseca family has been producing wine at Quinta do Sanguinhal since the late 19th century, with over 95 hectares of cultivated vineyards. Their best-known wines are operate under the labels Quinta das Cerejeiras, Quinta do Sanguinhal and Quinta de São Fransisco. Praia D’El Rey has an excellent working relationship with this estate, as the red, white and rosé wines from Quinta das Cerejeiras are served as our ‘house’ wine in the resort’s Club House.[/tab] [tab title=”Sports and Nature” icon=”icon-leaf”]One of the most popular attractions near Bombarral is the Buddha Eden Garden of Peace, set within the lush grounds of the Quinta dos Loridos estate. Featuring over 6000 tons of marble and granite Buddha statues and an army of terracotta warriors (a unique homage to the terracotta warriors in China), visitors can meander along the forest pathways or relax on the grassy banks by the lake. This fusion of art and oriental sculpture from Buddhist and Hindu origins create a unique and tranquil environment. There is also an on-site restaurant and shop, and excellent local wines can also be purchased from Quinta dos Loridos.
