Only 15km from Fatima you can visit the caves of Mira de Aire, which apart from the natural beauty, are the largest caves in Portugal, opened to the public since August 11, 1974

The dimensions (11km), the beauty and ecological importance of these caves, associated with periodic flooding, particularly in rainy winters, allowed them to be classified as a Public Interest in 1955 and also as a place of indisputable interest for studies and investigations that happen regularly.

Recently the caves of Mira de Aire participated in the contest “7 Natural Wonders of Portugal,” sponsored by the New 7 Wonders Portugal, where competed in the category “Caves and Caverns” being elected on 11 September 2010, as one of the 7 Natural Wonders of Portugal.
